Open Your Eyes

I am sure you realised that  I've named my blog after Maher Zain's song, Open your Eyes. Simply because its lyrics had such a huge impact on me. Amazing how the title itself, a mere three words is  strong enough to remind me to always open my eyes to Allah's greatness. Everything in front of us, that is created by Him, are signs of Allah.

Allahu Akbar, SubhanAllah.

In one of his live concert in Canada, Maher had said as he was driving along the mountains, looking around him,  the song Open Your Eyes just came to him. MashaAllah! We always have Maher's CD in the car, and  the first song that caught my attention after his famous hit 'InshaAllah'  was , 'Awaken', particularly, the line " Is Allah satisfied?" as a reminder to me in whatever I do.
This was a few years ago, I remember it was a beautiful sunny day, I was driving to Kuala Belait,  with 'Open Your Eyes'  playing from my player. The road was quiet, so  I drove slowly,  just enjoying the drive while admiring the trees along the road,  the clouds and the sky. I was singing along, the lyrics somehow moved me. It suddenly  occurred to me on how great is His creation, and how we human choose not to see this. Eyes glistening, I questioned myself, " Why have I been so blind all this while?" . I was the average muslim, sometimes remembering Allah, sometimes not. Life is good but do I remember Allah all the time?  Instantly, I made dua  "Alhamdulillah Ya Allah, thank you for the air that I breathe, thank you for my wonderful family, all your blessings. Jadikanlah ku orang yg sentiasa bersyukur dgn nikmat Mu. Jauhilah aku dari menjadi org yg kufur nikmat. Forgive me Ya Allah."

From that day on, this song was my favourite.

How I interpret this song is twofold. One, asking us to open our eyes to signs of the Creator, Al Khaliq. Allah creates the sun, the moon, the planets. How perfect is his creation is evident in the changes from day to night, the  planets moving  in their orbits in an orderly manner. How Allah has created us human beings, particularly, human life cycle is truly a miracle. So are we still not believing that there is a Creator?

Second, we are believers  but, we may be so busy in our lives, and  so caught up in this world's rat race that we tend to forget our real purpose of life.  Or we are so complacent with what dunya has to offer that we slowly go far away from our Creator. Then we forget to thank Allah for what we have. We forget that every single thing that affects us will not happen without Allah's will. We are believers, Muslims that acknowledge Allah's existence but are we fully submitting ourselves to Him? Are we following Allah's orders? I was in this category but now, I am trying my best to 'hear and obey'.

Ya Allah, we belong to you,' hidup ini sementara', life is just a journey and our destination is Akhirah. May Allah swt bless us and guide us to Jannah.  Let's open our eyes before the truth take us by surprise.

" Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return " ( Surah Al -Baqarah 2 :156)

And of course, here is the lyrics, although I know most of you must have memorised them.

Open Your Eyes by Maher Zain

Look around your self
Can't you see this wonder
Spread in front of you
The clouds floating by
The sky so clear and blue
Planets in their orbits
The moon and the sun
Such perfect harmony

Let's start questioning ourselves
Isn't this proof enough for us
Or are we so blind to push it all aside
No, we just have to

Chorus:
Open our eyes, our hearts and minds
If we just look right, we'll see the signs
We can't keep hiding from the truth
And let it take us by surprise
Allah protect us in the best way
Allah guide us every single day
Allah keep us close to You
Until the end of time

Look inside your self
Such perfect order
Hiding in your cells
Running in your veins
What about anger, love, and pain?
And all the things you're feeling
Can you touch them with your hand?
So are they really there?

Let's start questioning ourselves
Isn't this proof enough for us
Or are we so blind to push it all aside
No, we just have to

Chorus

When a baby is born
So helpless and weak
And you're watching it growing
Why deny what's in front of your eyes
The biggest miracle of life
We just have to

Chorus

Allah You created everything
We belong to You
Ya Rabb we raise our hands
Forever we thank You

Allhamdulillah

May Allah bless Maher Zain and Bara Kherigi for their beautiful words.

Alhamdulillah for my first published entry

Alhamdulillah, All praise is to Allah.

Finally, I did it! This is my first posting on my blog. Been pondering for ages whether  I really need to have a blog. A place where I could share my thoughts, views and of course my family events. Initially, I decided that fb was enough for me, but then again, the urge to write just came back. It keeps coming, I tried to put it at the back of my head, but the ideas of what needs to be recorded will simply not leave my brain.

Then I saw the doodle  on  Beating Procrastination by my favorite website : www.productivemuslim.com

Procrastination -What is stopping you?

Fear of failure was one of the reasons they listed and I felt that was the main reason for me. (Afraid of criticism, grammar mistakes, and so on.) So upon being motivated by that cute doodle, I decided to just do it.

What would I share then? Well, I decided that first and foremost, I would be sharing words of wisdom, interesting lectures or songs of others that have moved me, inspired me to change, to be a better muslimah. I hope to also share just some few ayahs from Quran, Book of Allah that I am trying to understand. Ayahs that I love,  sharing it as I understand it, Insha Allah.

Of course, next, it would be sharing of events  in my life.

So I thank Allah once again, for the courage to start this blog. May this blog bring some benefit to the readers out there  ( esp. for my children ). Please make dua that my good intentions will be rewarded by Allah s.w.t.

Nina

Post publish note : If you like my blog, please make dua for my family and me that we will always be on the right path of Islam. Second,  please make dua that my intentions remain firm, that is, having this blog to please Allah; and not be drowned with all the praises or criticisms.
